The top nipper 1 of a nipper mechanism is pivotally mounted at point A on a 'bottom nipper 4 and is reciprocable through arms 5, 6 .by means of an oscillating drive shaft 7, and the closing movement of the top nipper 1 is imparted through a spring loaded rocker arm 10 pivotable about two points D and E, the arrangement being such that the point D describes a curve Ks during the reciprocatory movement which is such .that the nippers are decelerated towards their point of closure N, and thus close gently. A counterbalance H is in equilibrium with the nipper mass and is connected to the top nipper through a curved link 13 which is reciprocated .by a crank lever 14 from the drive shaft 7. The counterbalance H is also connected to the shaft 7 through an arm 18 and crank 19. Closure curve Ks is such that at part N the angle between its tangent and that of the curve Kt which point D would describe with the nippers permanently closed is at most 15‹. |
