[Also in Division B1] In an underwater ram jet system in which gas of one temperature is injected into a liquid medium moving with respect to the point of injection thereof and at another substantially lower temperature than said one temperature to form bubbles of gas in the liquid medium which move therewith and eventually are destroyed by forces in said liquid medium acting on said bubbles of gas to release the energy thereof to provide thrust to said medium, a method of increasing the time between formation and destruction of the bubbles and thereby the time of release of the energy to optimize its effect comprises injecting a substance into the liquid medium 8 with the injection of gas therein to form coatings 2 of said substance about said bubbles 4, the coatings inhibiting drop in pressure of the gas 6 within the bubbles, thereby maintaining the pressure of the gas within.</p> |
