1,142,352. Metal-polyimide laminates. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 29 March, 1966 [19 April, 1935], No. 13773/66, Heading B5N. A method of bonding a layer of high molecular weight polyimide polymer to a layer of metal comprises baking the polymer layer 7 (in chamber 13), advancing a layer of metal 3 e.g. of an alloy of nickel, chromium and iron, brass or copper with an adjacent portion of the baked polymer layer to a bite between squeezing rolls 23, 25, effecting a squeeze between the rolls to press the polymer layer to the metal layer with a reduction in the thickness of the polymer and metal layers to form a weakly bonded composite, and sintering the bonded composite (in chamber 29) to improve the strength of the composite. The metal and the polymer may be in strip form and may be back tensioned by means 21 prior to bonding. |
