[Also in Division A5] An adsorption preparation comprising an activated carbon adsorbent and an adsorbate of a water insoluble or substantially water insoluble oxide, hydroxide or salt of a metal or organometallic group is made by adding a water soluble salt of the metal or organometallic group to a violently stirred suspension of activated carbon, precipitating the insoluble adsorbate and separating, washing and drying the adsorption preparation. The adsorbent: adsorbate ratio may be between 1 : 0.1 and 1 : 10. The adsorbate may be formed in situ by reaction of the dissolved compound with a water soluble hydroxide, acid or salt. Water may be added as a precipitant and the liquid in which the carbon is suspended is preferably miscible with water. Specified adsorbates are Al(NO 3 ) 3 , MgSO 4 , CoCl 3 , SnCl 2 , BiOCl 3 , MnCl, AgCl, (C 6 H 5 ) 3 SnCl and (C 6 H 5 ) 3 SnOH. The preparations may be used in paints, rust proofing, fungicides and bactericides.</p> |
