A dewatering device for a paper-making machine comprising a rigid support member 1 (2) extending over the width of the wire, support slats 4 fixed to post 1 and carrying dewatering slats 3 arranged in succession in the direction of travel of the wire, each dewatering slat 3 being composed of sintered aluminium oxide and subdivided into groups of sections (9, 10), 11, (12, 13, Fig. 3) over the width of the wire, is characterized in that each group of sections is pre-mounted on a connecting bar (6), 7, (8) to form an assembled unit 5. The ends of adjacent bars are not in alignment in the direction of travel of the wire. The sections (9-13) of each unit 5 are releasably mounted on their bar 7 by threaded bolts 16 passing through bores 15 in the bar and received in threaded bores in a clamping bar 18 located in a recess 14 provided in the sections. Alternatively, the sections may be adhered to the bar by an epoxide resin. Each bar has a dovetail projection fitting into a corresponding recess in support slat 4, and is releasably connected thereto by a screw 20 and clamping member 19. Alternatively (Fig. 4) each bar (21) may be of a glass fibre reinforced polyester resin and have T-shaped recess on its underside corresponding in shape to, a steel rail (25) so that it can be slid thereonto. The angle between the upper surface of each unit 5 and the wire can be adjusted by loosening screw 20 and inserting a wedge between the bar 7 and support slat 4. Alternatively, the underside of the bar 7 may be concave in the direction of travel of the wire and the upper surface of slat 4 convex, or vice versa, and the angle adjusted by sliding bar 7 forwards or backwards over slat 4. |
