1,227,635. Gearing for stopping and starting machinery. SPERRY RAND CORP. 23 Sept., 1969 [26 Sept., 1968], No. 46715/69. Heading F2L. A drive mechanism for an aircraft throttle control comprises a power-driven input shaft 14 carrying a sun gear 13 which meshes planet pinions 10 carried by an output drum 23 and the planet pinion are normally held against rotation by oppositely directed ratchet mechanism 17, 24; 18, 26 to lock the planet train and thus provide a drive from the shaft 14 to the drum 23. On initial rotation of a manually rotatable input drum 33 the ratchet mechanisms are disengaged to disconnect the shaft 14 from the drum 23 and thereafter the input drum 33 drives the output drum 23 directly. The input drum 33 carries adjustable stops 37, 38 which on initial rotation of the drum 33 engage pins 34, 36, 41, 46 fast with pawls 24, 26 to tilt the latter out of engagement with their associated ratchet wheels 17, 18 fast with the planet pinion 10. The pawls which prevent rotation of the planet pinions are arranged to engage different points on the teeth of their respective ratchet wheels to reduce lost motion in the drive mechanism. |
