[Also in Division C3] The invention comprises sulphonated diamines of the formula in which R denotes an alkylene radical of 2-12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene radical or a group of the formula R1 and R2 denote aromatic nuclei, M denotes hydrogen or a metal atom, m and n denote integers of 1-6, and x, y and z denote 0, 1 or 2, provided that their sum is at least 1. Specific instances of the radicals R, R1 and R2 are given. The compounds are prepared from the unsulphonated diamines by standard sulphonation processes. Typical examples describe the sulphonation of N,N1-di-(benzyl)-hexamethylenediamine, N,N1 - di - (benzyl) - m - xylylenediamine and N,N1 - di - (γ - phenyl - n - propyl)- hexamethylenediarnine. The products are useful as reagents in the manufacture of polyamides (see Division C3).
