1,149,842. Sulphonated diamines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 18 Jan., 1967 [10 Feb., 1966], No. 5898/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises sulphonated diamines of the formula in which R denotes an alkylene radical of 2-12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkylene radical or a group of the formula R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> denote aromatic nuclei, M denotes hydrogen or a metal atom, m and n denote integers of 1-6, and x, y and z denote 0, 1 or 2, provided that their sum is at least 1. Specific instances of the radicals R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are given. The compounds are prepared from the unsulphonated diamines by standard sulphonation processes. Typical examples describe the sulphonation of N,N<SP>1</SP>-di-(benzyl)-hexamethylenediamine, N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - (benzyl) - m - xylylenediamine and N,N<SP>1</SP> - di - (γ - phenyl - n - propyl)- hexamethylenediarnine. The products are useful as reagents in the manufacture of polyamides (see Division C3). |
