1285048 Vehicle independent suspensions BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE AG 20 Aug 1969 41552/69 Headings B7D and B7H In a motor vehicle having independent suspension for the steered wheels thereof, the swivel axes of the wheels are so inclined to each other as to intersect below the surface on which the vehicle stands. As shown, pairs of links 4, 5 comprise co-planar arms 4, 4 and 5, 5 connected to a stub-axle carrier by ball-joints 6 in such a way that the wheel swivel axis 10 makes a negative angle (6), (Figs. 5-7, not shown), with the wheel centre plane, the swivel axis being a line joining the points of intersection of the axes 4<SP>1</SP>, 4<SP>1</SP> and 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP> of the arms of the pairs. In a further embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), two wishbone arms (19) only are provided, the upper of which has connection to the stub-axle carrier (3<SP>111</SP>) at a point (20) above the wheel and substantially on the centre plane thereof. Longitudinal pitch of the vehicle during braking is said to be counteracted by the arrangement in which the arms of each pair are non-co-planar. Specification 1,285,047 is referred to. |
