The ribs or waves run round the circumference of the pipe to the slit or slits which act as rib boundaries. The longitudinal edges of the pipe slit or slits are shaped to take a shaped rail which can serve, e.g. to hold together two semi-circular halves of a pipe. The slit egde can have an external projection on which a suitably shaped rail fits to prevent e.g. inward and outward movement of the pipe's longitudinal egdes. The pipe and rail may be made of e.g. polyethylene or PVC.
