[Also in Division C4] In a colour-reactive copying sheet, the reagents are an electron-acceptive solid acid, and a dye precurser of the formula: where each of R 1 and R 2 is an alkyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a benzyl group, X is an alkyl group of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, phenyl or naphthyl and Y is an alkyl group of 1 to 17 carbon atoms, phenyl naphthyl, an amino group, an acylamino group or an alkoxy group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms. When X or Y or both is phenyl or naphthyl, this group may be unsubstituted or substituted with groups that cannot liberate hydrogen ions, e.g. sulphone, alkyl, halogen, alkoxy, acetoxy, acylamino, acyl or nitro group. The solid acid may be acid clay, active clay, attapulgite, zeolite, bentonite, succinic acid, tannic acid, gallic acid, paratoluene-sulphonic acid, phenolic resin, or pentachlorophenol. The dye precursor is dissolved in an organic solvent and the solution enclosed in microcapsules that can be broken by writing pressure. These microcapsules and the acid may both be present on the same sheet, or on separate sheets. These precursors from a yellow-orange to orange-red image, but may be used in conjunction with other colour-formers to obtain images of other colours, e.g. black.</p> |
