1,100,745. Processing tea. TEA RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 27 June, 1966 [13 Sept., 1965], No. 38991/65. Heading A2B. A machine for processing tea (i.e. tearing, curling, rolling or shearing) comprises two relatively rotatable coaxial discs 4, 6 positioned face to face and having serrations, battens, pins or grooves on their opposed faces and feeding means comprising hopper 2 for feeding tea leaf into the central zone between the discs 4, 6 such that it is processed as it is moved to the peripheries of the discs from where it is discharged into a chamber 23 surrounding the discs. The serrations &c. on one disc are counterhand to those on the other disc. The processed tea may be discharged from chamber 23 into a trough. Only one of the discs may be rotated or both may be rotated at the same or different speeds in opposite directions. Disc 6 may be displaceable to vary the space between it and disc 4. Disc 6 is spring loaded. Disc 6 is provided with cone 7 provided with serrations, battens, pins or grooves and extending into the opening of disc 4 such that leaf is fed between the discs via annular chamber 21. Screw means may be provided to control the feed of leaf into the annular chamber. The discs may be mounted vertically in which case the feeding means are horizontal. |
