Roasting of iron sulphide material, in particular pyrrhotite or another pyritic material, from which sulphur was expelled by a partial roasting or another thermal treatment, is improved in that the sulphidic material is agglomerated e.g., by rolling or micropelletizing to a size suitable for a fluidised bed roasting; then roasted and simultaneously hardened in a fluidised bed (pref. at 700-1100 degrees C, under a controlled partial pressure of oxygen), and withdranw therefrom in the hot state. The fines are recovered from the effluent gases and recycled. A dusting-free, coarse-grain, sulphur-free product is obtained, which is suitable for further processing (e.g. chlorination).
|
