PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive and improved centrifugal compressor with less noise, and method for assembling a silencer. CONSTITUTION: A centrifugal compressor 12 has a type which has an impeller for accelerating refrigerating gas to a high speed, a diffuser 16 for converting operating energy of the refrigerating gas to pressure energy, and an exhaust chamber 11 which receives decelerated gas from the diffuser and is used for transferring it to a condenser. This centrifugal compressor 12, which is provided, especially, in the exhaust chamber 11, is equipped with a plurality of silencer segments 22 for absorbing sound transmitted into the exhaust chamber, and a holding means 31 for substantially holding the silencer segments 22 at given places in the exhaust chamber 11. |
