1,152,960. Automatic brake adjusters; bearings. WESTINGHOUSE BREMSEN-UND APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. 31 July, 1967 [3 Aug., 1966], No. 35099/67. Headings F2A and F2E. An automatically adjustable brake unit of the worm and worm-wheel type is characterized in that the spindle 6 is coupled via a unidirectional clutch 9, e.g. a binding spring, to a lever 8 which moves between stops 10, 11 mounted on a fixed member, e.g. an axle. When movement of the brake lever 3 exceeds a permissible amount, the movement of the adjusting lever 8 is limited by the first stop, and its angle relative to the brake lever is altered, on release of the brake movement of the adjusting lever 8 is limited by the second stop, and spindle 6 rotates to automatically adjust the brake lever position via the meshing worm 5 and wormwheel 4. The shaft 6 has a squared end to permit manual adjustment. The end of the shaft 6 opposite to the clutch 9 is provided with a friction bearing consisting of spring washer 12 positioned between two further washers 14 mounted on the shaft 6, the spring washer 12 forcing the washers 14 into engagement with fixed friction washers 15. The loading of the spring washer may be adjusted by screw member 16. |
