<p>Slots are cut perpendicular to the surfaces to be joined and filled with fibres wetted with a reactive resin, the fibres also being disposed as far as possible perpendicular to the joint. The resin is pref. a cold-setting liquid epoxy resin and the fibres asbestos, carbon, metal or esp. glass fibres. The process can be used to repair breaks or cracks, esp. in castings such as housings, engine cylinder blocks, machine supports and frames, bearing blocks, concrete walls, quay installations etc. Strength of the joint is high, it extends across the whole depth of the fault, no heat treatment is used, only simple equipment which does not require experts is necessary and repairs not possible by other methods e.g. to concrete elements and walls, can be made.</p> |
