Hollow profiled fibres are produced by melt spinning polymeric material such as polyamides, polyesters or polyalkylenes, through orifices in a spinning plate having one or more groups of such orifices, each group consisting of two or three orifices, each orifice being in the form of three or four straight arms radiating from a point so that a central area exists in each group outlined by two arms from each orifice. Prefered arrangements have two orifices in each group, the orifices having either a Y or an X- shape, and being disposed opposite one another as mirror images. In each case the length of each arm is at least twice its width, and the distance apart of the closest point of the two orifices is at least as great as the arm leading to those points. The angles between the slot arms may be equal or unequal. |
