Growing monocrystals of mixed alloys - by crystallisation in fluctuating temp gradient

Monocrystals of alloys of gps. II and VI or gps. IV and VI elements, pref. CdxHg1-xTe or PbxSn1-xTe, or Ge-Si alloys, are produced by melting the elements and progressively moving the melt against a fluctuating temp. gradient to effect uniform crystallisation. Alternatively, the temp. changes are produced by superimposing to- and fro oscillations on the progressive movement of the melt. Monocrystals having a nearly perfect crystalline structure and uniform compsn are obtd.
