1285325 Pipe and joints M KAPEKER 19 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 15851/71 Heading F2G A joint between pipes, &c. 1a, 4 comprises an 0-ring 5 of p.t.f.e. in a groove surrounding one pipe, &c., forced into the tapered mouth 2a of the other pipe, &c. to seat in a groove 10. As shown, a second 0-ring 15, which need not be chemically inert and may be of soft rubber, seats in a second groove around the pipe 1a and, when the pipes are coupled, engages the tapered mouth 2a of the other pipe. The coupled pipes may be separated by tilting them relative to each other, Fig. 6 (not shown). The pipes, &c. la, 4 may be made of glass. In a modified construction, Figs. 1-3 (not shown), the second O- ring 15 of soft rubber is omitted. A junction piece, Fig. 7 (not shown), having two male ends and one socket mouth, is described. Steam distillation apparatus, Fig. 8 (not shown), may use joints according to the invention.
