In refrigeration plant, operating with the working substance (Pm) in closed system without heat rejection to surroundings i.e. its net work done is positive, compression of Pm is (almost) isothermal without loosing heat from the closed system. Rejected heat is absorbed from cold stores in the next process step to the extent, that the Pm temp. so attained will, upon the next following adiabatic expansion phase of the Pm to its initial press. drop sufficiently below its pre-compression temp., so that the resulting temp. difference between it and the end temp. of the adiabatic expansion allows the Pm to return the heat transferred to the coolant (Sm) during the isothermal compression stage, including the resultant increase in heat content in the compression space walls, to be used as energy supplied to the compressor. Plant cycle is completed by the condensing Sm plus remainder Pm in plant restoring the adiabatically expanded Pm stream to the initial Pm temp. Embodies such plant systems for small, very large and air liquefaction plants, and also or condensation of (atomic) power station waste steam, which, while needing virtually no energy produces saleable current. P-v and T-s diagrams and heat-and work balances are given.
|
