Electrodeposition of coatings of Nb, V or Ta or their alloys is effected from molten electrolytes consisting of at least a fluoride of the metal to be deposited together with alkali fluorides in the presence of an inert atmosphere. Appts employs a vessel with an anode and a cathode, the latter being surrounded by a closely meshed sieve which is resistant to the molten electrolyte. The anode is positioned outside this sieve.
