1,202,956. Production of ferrosilicon. UNION CARBIDE CORP. Sept. 24, 1968, [Sept.25, 1967], No.45207/68. Heading C7D. Ferrosilicon is produced by forming a mixture of finely divided carbon, iron ore and silica into agglomerates, charging the agglomerates into an electric furnace, heating the charge by means of at least one electrode submerged therein to cause reduction and the production of molten ferrosilicon alloy and tapping the alloy from the furnace, the proportions of iron and silicon in the charge being such as to provide a ferrosilicon with 45-50% by weight of silicon and the amount of carbon being from 105 to 115% of the weight required theoretically to react with silica to produce silicon and carbon monoxide.
|
