1352253 Container closures DART INDUSTRIES Inc 19 April 1971 [3 Feb 1970 27 Aug 1970] 20829/71 Heading B8T A closure 10 has radial pleats 18 in its topwall 14 which taper inwardly and downwardly to a plane central region 16 from an upwardly and outwardly sloping wall 26 with an outside diameter greater than the diameter of the mouth of the container. To fit the closure it is placed on the container and downward pressure is applied to the region 16. The pleats 18 collapse upon themselves displacing the wall 26 inwardly and the closure is pushed on until a bead 32 has snapped under the undercut below the sloping wall 36. Air expelled from the container egresses through gaps between ribs 25 on the inside of walls 33, 37. When the downward pressure is released the closure tends to regain its original shape and wall 26 sealingly engages wall 36. An additional seal may be provided between the container wall and a ridge on the inside of wall 37. To remove the closure the lip 12 is prised upwardly. The wall 37 may be omitted.
