发明名称 TOY MACHINE FOR BONDING OR JOINING ARTICLES
摘要 1385832 Seaming non-metallic sheet material MATTEL Inc 16 May 1973 23311/73 Heading B5K A toy machine for bonding articles comprises a presser foot assembly 90, an operating lever assembly 96 and a liquid dispensing cartridge 92 operatively associated with crank journals 84, 86, 88 on a crank-shaft 64. In one embodiment, Figs. 1 and 2, a toy machine for bending garment pieces comprises an upstanding post 32 carrying a head 34 spaced above a plate 36 and is powered by an electric motor 38 connected to dry cells 40, 42 supported in a compartment 44. The motor 38 drives a crankshaft 64 which, at one end 74, carries a bifurcated tang 76 frictionally engaging a hub 78 carried by a simulated flywheel 80 and, at the other end 82, has offset journals 84, 86, 88, Fig. 8, operatively associated with a presser foot assembly 90, an end wall 24, Fig. 1, and a liquid dispensing cartridge 92, respectively. A control lever assembly 96 has ribs 98, 100 slidably retained in a slot 94 in the wall 24, has a C-shaped end 106 and has a hand grip portion 112 by which the assembly 96 may be moved from the position of Fig. 4 to a lower position, Fig. 3 (not shown). The assembly is held in the Fig. 4 position by engagement of a part 108 with a shoulder 114 on a locking tab 116 on the wall 24. The end 106 comprises legs 118, 120. The leg 118 carries a bracket 122 caging an offset finger 124 on a rotatably-mounted switch-actuating crank 126 having an offset finger 134 to lift a contact 136 from the position of Fig. 2 to that of Fig. 4 when the finger 134 is swung in the direction of arrow 138 by raising the assembly 96 to interrupt the electrical circuit to the motor 38. The leg 120 is acted on by a torsion spring 146 to urge the assembly 96 downwardly to maintain the rib 98 in engagement with the journal 86 to maintain the crankshaft end 82 at a proper elevation when the assembly 96 is lowered. The end 82 is raised to the Fig. 4 position by the engagement of the leg 118 and a clip 162 on the rib 100 with circular discs 166, 168, respectively, Figs. 1 and 8, on the shaft 64. The cartridge 92, Fig. 10, comprises storage chambers 206, 208 for an acid and a bonding agent, respectively, and having discharge nozzles 220, 218 with outlet ports 224, 222 normally closed by valves 232, 230 under the influence of springs 236, 234. A stop member 254 is engageable with a workpiece 256 as it travels along the plate 36 to control the amount the valves 230, 232 open and to tamp the workpiece so that the bonding composition soaks through it faster. A flexible air sack (268), Fig. 11 (not shown), receives air through a vent (264) to equalize the pressure outside the cartridge and a bonding agent in the chamber 208. The bonding agent may comprise a latex wherein a solid rubbery phase is dispersed in water to form an emulsion. Citric acid from the chamber 206 is used to coagulate the solids as soon as the emulsion is dispersed. Coagulation of the latex as it soaks through the workpiece 256 causes rubbery stringers to be formed to bond the plies together. The presser foot assembly 90, Figs. 1 and 8, carries two arcuate feet 338, 340 each having a serrated edge 342 and mounted to co-operate with rotatable rollers 344, 346. The assembly 90 is movable vertically, but not laterally, so that, when the journal 84 rotates, the feet 338, 340 intermittently feed the workpiece. In operation, fabric plies 355, 356, Fig. 12, are placed together to form a workpiece 256 and a template 358 placed thereon. A pencil 361 is used to trace the pattern of the template and of openings 360 therein on the workpiece. The workpiece is placed on the plate 36 beneath the feet 338, 340, Fig. 8, and the assembly 96 is released from the tab 116, Fig. 4, so that the spring 146 moves the end 82 of the shaft 64 downwardly. The lowering of the assembly 96 swings the crank 126 to the position of Fig. 2 to lower the contact 136 and energize the motor 38. The shaft 64 rotates to cause the journal 84 to reach the lowermost point of its travel and start upwardly while the cartridge 92 starts downwardly. Each time the member 254 contacts the workpiece 256, the valves 230, 232 open sufficiently to discharge a drop or globule of bonding composition 368. The workpiece is guided over the rollers 344, 346 until all the marked areas are covered with the composition 368. The assembly 96 is elevated and engaged on the tab 116. The workpiece is removed from the plate and the garment cut out and turned inside out.
