PREPARATION OF CARBON-CONTAINING REFRACTORY

PURPOSE:To enhance the durability of refractory by a method wherein a compound prepared by adding a phenol resin to refractory aggregate containing 1-50wt.% of scaly graphite as a binder is stirred and kneaded in a hermetically closed kneading tank while pressurized from above and subsequently molded under pressure. CONSTITUTION:A shaft (3) having screw stirring blades (2) is provided in a hermetically closed kneading tank 1. A compound of refractory aggregate containing 1-50wt.% of scaly graphite and a synthetic resin binder is kneaded in the hermetically closed kneading tank (1) by the screw stirring blades (2) while pressurized from above to be molded under pressure. By this method, the quality of carbon-containing refractory is enhanced by the improvement in the kneading process in the manufacturing of refractory.
