Start and stop system for vehicle engines - has switch over relay actuated by single button in ignition circuit

The engine can be stopped and restarted by repressing the same button. A switching relay is provided whose winding is connected to the positive supply via the ignition switch and excited by a press button to earth. The relay actuates a latch to turn a star wheel which has alternative connections. The relay also holds a further switch closed for the whole time on which it is excited and leads to the starter motor control input. The star wheel contact leads to the ignition coil and the alternative contact leads to a control lamp and a relay in series with the head lamp dipper switch.
