A cooking utensil e.g. saucepan or frying pan of nonstick e.g. PTFE coated type, consists of a renewable inner shell which carries a non-stick coating, and an outer shell to which the inner shell can be detachably secured in a close fitting relationship. The cost of renewing the inner shell after the normal life of 2-3 years or if the coating becomes damaged, is less than that of renewing a whole utensil of ordinary make. The utensil is easier to fabricate and more economical in the use of expensive materials. The handle can be more strongly attached. Hot spotting and burning-on of the food is less likely. Fitting of a new inner shell can be done either by the user or a service facility. The inner shell is pref. of aluminium, though glass fibre reinforced plastic may be used, and is coated with fluorinated hydrocarbon. The outer shell will normally be of ferrous metal e.g. carbon steel, or ceramic material could be used.
|
