1531486 Wrap-around carton for a plurality of containers MEAD CORP 27 Nov 1975 [29 Nov 1974] 48892/75 Heading B8C A carton blank comprises a plurality of panels 1, 11, 13-15 foldably joined one to another along parallel fold lines, the respective panels 14, 15 at the opposite ends of the blank being adapted to be interconnected in overlapping relation to form a tubular structure from the carton blank about a plurality of articles, e.g. cans C; one, 15, of the two panels incorporating at least one configured locking slit 24, which is adapted to receive a corresponding configured locking tab 35 struck from the other panel after the locking tab has been folded out of the plane of the other panel along a hinge line 38 and into flat face-contacting relation with an adjacent positioning tab 30 formed on an edge of the other panel 14, which positioning tab is adapted to be inserted along with the locking tab into the locking slit and the locking tab swinging away from the panels due to its inherent bias to interlock the panels. When the panels 14, 15 are interlocked, diverging side edges of each locking tab 35 engage with the corresponding portions of the locking slit edges 28, 29 which are adjacent the base 27 of the locking slit 24, the side edges 33, 34 of the associated positioning tab 35 engaging respectively the ends 28a, 29a of the locking slit, and the hinge line 38 of the locking tab 35 coinciding with the base slit 27. The centre panel 1 of the blank has two finger-gripping apertures (2, 3), corner slits 22 being formed along the fold lines 16, to receive the base portions of the cans C. |
