A (semi-)continuous metal casting process comprises feeing liq. metal onto a bottom plate within an annular inductor, shaping the metal into an ingot by the electromagnetic field of the inductor, lowering the bottom plate simultaneously, with cooling medium supply on the side face of the ingot using cooling fiers arranged at different levels along the ingot, cutting off cooling medium sequentially in the fiers, beginning from the topmost fier, as the ingot bottom becomes level with a next fier along the ingot motion, and supplying cooling medium until casting is completed by the fier that maintains the liq. solid interface on the side face of the ingot at the mid-height of the inductor.
|
