PURPOSE:To provide an optical recording medium which can perform highly sensitive excellent contrast recording and has durable stability and recording and readout method of information onto said optical recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A substrate and a multi-layer film having a recording layer containing an organic pigment and a recording auxiliary layer and provided. Said recording auxiliary layer forms a compatible state with the organic pigment by radiation of recording optical beams having a specific wavelength to make an optical recording medium generate variation capable of being optically detected, and information is recorded. A multi-layer film wherein a separation layer is provided between a recording layer and the recording auxiliary layer may be used. By radiating optical beams for play back having a same wavelength as or different wavelength from the specific one onto an information record on which information is recorded, a difference in spectral characteristics between a non-recording part of the recording layer and a compatible formed part is detected to read out information.
