In order to achieve that a record (12) rests flatly on the turntable during playing, an underlay (11) having a sealing lip (13) running around the outside is fastened on the turntable (10). Once a record (12) has been placed on the underlay (11), a suction device comprising a bellows (20) is put onto the pin (15) of the record player. By pressing the bellows (20) down, air is expelled from the latter. When the bellows is subsequently released, air from the area between the underlay (11) and the record (12) is sucked away between the pin (15) and the record (12), so that the record (12) rests firmly on the flat underlay (11). The suction device does not require any external energy and is able to maintain the suction force for the playing time of the record. <IMAGE>
