The invention concerns a contact wetted with mercury for electrical circuit breakers and a method for production of same. The mercury contact contains a base part of beryllium in the solid phase, wetted with mercury. In the procedure for production of the mercury contact, the cleaned base part of beryllium in the solid phase is periodically dipped into chemically pure mercury via a mixture of a saturated aqueous solution of chromium trioxide and a 40 percent aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid in a mutual volume mixture ratio of 1:1. The invention is intended to be used for mercury switching apparatus.
