A toothed pulley (5) is made in two parts (6, 7) and partially embedded in the moulded cylinder (2) of a roller brush (1). Each part has a flank, which together provide lateral guide flanges for a toothed belt which drives the brush, and mutually engaged ring portions (8, 10). The outer portion (8) has the teeth integrally formed on its outer surface while its inner surface (11) positively engages the outer surface (12) of the inner portion (10). These engaging surfaces may be coned at a shallow angle and rely on frictional grip, or they may have intermeshing teeth.
