PURPOSE:To detect the size of an original accurately and to prevent mis-operation, by using a reflecting plate having a small reflection factor on which the original is carried, for detecting the width of the original before the reading scanning of the original. CONSTITUTION:The original 10 is carried toward the A and when it reaches the reflecting plate 11, a mirror 12 turns toward B and an analog picture signal (a) is obtained on a reading line la. A signal width b1 is extracted from the signal (a) at an analog gate circuit 16 with a gate signal (b) corresponding to the size B4 and applied to a comparator 17. The comparator 17 compares an output signal of the circuit 16 with a prescribed level L to output a signal (c). The size of the original 10 is represented with a width c1 of the signal (c). A width of original discriminating/correcting circuit 18 generates a correcting amount data (d) corresponding to the difference between the size A4 and the size of original, adds the signal (c) to the data (d), obtains an A4-size data (e) and stores the data in a width of original memory 19. The stored information of a picture signal memory 22 obtained up to a reading line lb is gated at a gate circuit 20 with an output of the memory 19, and the information of the original 10 and the A4 size picture signal are extracted. |
