PURPOSE:To obtain a copy image by discriminating original size in preliminary exposure scanning operation, detecting a dark part having specific width being present in the center of an original and then confirming that the original is a book type original, and erasing the unnecessary image of the binding part, etc., of the original in copying operation. CONSTITUTION:A detecting means 100 detects a light and a dark part of an original image during the preliminary exposure scanning operation and each scanning time up to a change point of time of the light and dark parts of the original image is measured by a timer means 102 and stored in the 1st storage means 103. A dark part scanning period is selected by a selecting means 104 and the half of the scanning time is calculated by an arithmetic means 105 and a dark part scanning period which contains the arithmetic result is found by a searching means 106 and stored in the 2nd storage means 107. An erasing means 108 inputs various pieces of information like this from the 1st and the 2nd storage means 103 and 107 during the copying operation and erase the unnecessary image of the binding part, etc., of the original. |
