PURPOSE:To provide possibility of continuing running at a specified gear ratio even if the electronic control device has gone into failure, by furnishing a means to provide a specific gear ratio state by the use of another system of manual operation separate from the automatic speed change control. CONSTITUTION:Normally a manual selector valve 123 is fixed by a safety pin 808, and an oil line 176 is in communication with an oil line 804. In this condition, oil pressure is supplied from a speed change control valve 106 to a driving pulley cylinder chamber 20 via said oil line 176, and the gear ratio is controlled according to this oil pressure. In case a speed change motor 110 or a speed change control device 300 has gone into failure, a safety pin 808 is drawn off to enable movement of a spool 802, which is switched into the upper half state by pulling a knob 802a. Thereby the above-mentioned oil line 804 is put in communication with a drain port 806 via an orifice 807 to cause gradual exhaustion of the oil pressure from the above-mentioned driving pulley cylinder chamber 20, while a follower pulley cylinder chamber 32 is supplied with oil pressure.
