PURPOSE:To drive a wheel by an AC power supply with a simple construction, by mounting a conductive disk with strip-shaped spaces defined radially therethrough serving as the rotor of a rotary machine on the wheel and mounting a stator on a body. CONSTITUTION:A conductive disk with strip-shaped spaces 5a defined radially therethrough is co-axially mounted on a wheel shaft 1 as a rotor 5 and a stator 6 corresponding to it is mounted on a body and they constructs an a.c. machine MG. In the arrangement, exhaust gas from an engine A causes the a.c. machine C and a generator F to generate AC power through a turbine B, and a controller D converts the power so that it is supplied to a coil 62 with a frequency and a phase corresponding to a signal sensed by a rotary sensor of a wheel shaft 1. Then, alternating magnetic flux is produced in a fixed core 61 to cause the rotor 5 to rotate, whereby the wheel shaft 1 is rotated. With this arrangement, the wheel shaft 1 can be rotated by an AC power supply with a simple construction.
