PURPOSE:To change sound only while preserving a still picture by deciding whether or not the still picture mode is released automatically depending on whether channel selection is applied by up-down operation or a direct button. CONSTITUTION:A video signal output of a tuner section 1 is converted into a digital signal by an A/D conversion circuit 2 and stored in a onescreen memory 3. Further, the digital output of the memory is returned into a video signal by a D/A conversion circuit 4. These signals are controlled by a timing control circuit 5. As operation buttons 10, direct channel selection buttons 0-9, a channel up-down button and a still picture on/off button are prepared, and when a button is depressed, it is detected by a key input circuit 9, a pulse is outputted to a ck input of a flip-flop 7 by using an operation control circuit, its output is inverted to stop A/D conversion. That is, the video signal output is a still picture.
