PURPOSE:To enable recording to be executed without being limited by the shape, constitution, etc., of matter to be recorded, by a method wherein a recording pattern based on recording information kept by a keeping means is recorded on the matter to be recorded according to the drawing out amount of a recording material detected by a means for detecting a transfer amount and marked on a marking means. CONSTITUTION:When a main unit 30 is moved in a state where a switch 25 is on, a clock pulse corresponding to the drawing out amount of a thermal transfer ink ribbon 2, i.e., the transfer amount of the main unit 30 is generated from a photointerruptor 7 and a clock generator 16 generates a pulse of about 2ms by utilizing a clock to be obtained as a trigger. CPU 21 accesses recording information preliminarily stored up in RAM 22 by this pulse, generates a corresponding image data in ROM 23 and energizes a driver 14 in a thermal head 9. Therefore, thermal resistors 15-1-15-16 are controlled to be heated by recording information read out from ROM 23 according to the transfer amount of the body 30 and the recording information preliminarily stored is thermally transferred to be recorded on a matter to be recorded 10. A recording image is marked on a liquid crystal display simultaneously with recording operation.
