A free piston compressor comprising in combination of a compressor cylinder and free piston connected with each other and arranged in said cylinder or cylinders for free reciprocation, the piston formed with two compression surfaces, the surface on one or the other side of the piston being acted upon by the discharge pressure of one or the other compression side of said compressor and being controlled by regulating devices in the discharge conduit between compression chamber exhaust and intake to the groove area of the piston mass of said engine, which piston mass moves in clock and counterclock, rotary propelled, forward and reverse stoke operation.
