A composite magnetic head core, having a first and a second integral core assembly. Each core assembly includes a first ferrite core element having a C-shaped portion, and a second ferrite core element having a rectangular portion. The core elements are butted and bonded together, so as to close an opening of the C-shaped portion with the rectangular portion, to thereby form a generally annular magnetic circuit including a magnetic gap defined by opposed end portions of the two core elements at one end of the corresponding core assembly. Each core assembly has at least one inclined groove cut in the opposed end portions of the two ferrite core elements to define a width of at least one track, in a direction from the second core element toward the first core element, such that the depth of the inclined groove decreases toward the first ferrite core element and such that a depth of the inclined groove at the position corresponding to the magnetic gap is greater than a depth of the magnetic gap. The two integral core assemblies are butted and bonded together by an adhesive layer disposed between the second core elements, such that the inclined grooves in the two core assemblies are maintained in a predetermined positional relationship with each other. The grooves are filled with a suitable filler such as a glass. |
