PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for driving a voltage level of an electrical conductor (e.g. word line) at high speed between high voltage and low voltage without increasing a driver region in a semiconductor device. SOLUTION: An electrical conductor 302 is driven from a second voltage Vref being an intermediate voltage between high voltage Vcc and low voltage Vss to high voltage Vcc. Also the conductor 302 is discharged from Vcc to Vref by connecting it to Vss. When the conductor 302 reaches Vref, the conductor 302 is separated from Vss. In one embodiment. after voltage of the conductor 302 is detected, the conductor 302 is separated from Vss. Or when the conductor 302 reaches Vref, a time of charging operation can be adjusted so as to stop discharge.
