In the production of alkyne-diols by reaction of ketones with acetylenes in presence of potassium prim. and/or sec. alcoholate, the stoichiometric ratio of the reactants is adjusted so that gel-like alkynol/base adducts with a spherical surface are obtained and the reaction mixture remains able to be stirred throughout. A process for the production of alkyne-diols by reaction of ketones with acetylenic hydrocarbons in organic solvent in presence of a base containing potassium prim. and/or sec. alcoholates, resulting in the formation of adducts of alkynemono- and/or alkynedi-ols and base which are precipitated from the reaction mixture. In this process, the stoichiometric ratio of the reactants is such that gel-like adducts with a spherical surface are obtained and the reaction mixture remains able to be stirred throughout.
