<p>A sheet material comprising at least an inorganic filler other than asbestos, a polycarbodiimide resin, a rubber material having functional groups reactive with the carbodiimide group, and optionally a fibrous component comprising organic or inorganic fibers; and a sheet material comprising the above components, wherein the polycarbodiimide resin reacts at least partially with the rubber material. The production process comprises making a sheet from a composition comprising at least an inorganic filler other than asbestos, a polycarbodiimide resin, a rubber material having functional groups reactive with the carbodiimide group, and optionally a fibrous component comprising organic or inorganic fibers, and either heating the sheet above the softening point of the polycarbodiimide resin, or reacting the polycarbodiimide resin at least partially with the rubber material by heating the sheet above the softening point of the resin. The sheet is produced without using asbestos fiber, exhibits excellent flexibility, sealability, strength and resistances to chemicals and heat, and can be used particularly as a gasket having excellent resistances to fluorocarbon refrigerants and oils used in machinery using these refrigerants.</p> |
