PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound with hardly any formation of unreacted raw materials and by-products by reacting an active hydrogen- containing organic compound with an alkylene oxide using a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A compound of hydrotalcites is heat-treated at 200-350 deg.C, preferably 250-300 deg.C to remove interlayer moisture while holding its layer structure. An active hydrogen-containing organic compound (e.g. n-octanol, phenol, ethylene glycol, 1-butanethiol, acetic acid, laurylamine or formamide) is reacted with an alkylene oxide (e.g. ethylene oxide or propylene oxide) by using the resultant compound as a catalyst to afford the objective compound. |
