PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distal end of a radial scanning ultrasonic endoscope securing excellent insertion property by sufficiently rounding the ridge portion of an outer edge of a distal end portion, and forming a sufficiently deep groove for fixing a balloon and moreover forming stable constitution wherein each part is positively positioned and fixed. SOLUTION: A rear side portion 12a of an optical system holding body 12 is formed thick so as not to pass through the inside of an ultrasonic head unit 11, while a tip side portion of the optical system holding body 12 is allowed to pass through the inside of the ultrasonic head unit 11 from the tip side and projected from the tip of the ultrasonic head unit 11. A locking ring 21 with the surface formed in shape continuous without step difference with both the tip outer edge of the ultrasonic head unit 11 and the tip outer edge of the optical system holding body 12, is fixed to the tip outer peripheral part of the optical system holding body 12 by a fixing pin 24 inserted from the side part.
