PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording reproducer with a chapter forming guide function which easily forms chapters while checking them on a screen. SOLUTION: For dividing a program (title) into a plurality of chapters, an actual program is reproduced on a moving picture reproducing area 81a. A chapter boundary is determined, a cursor is set on a mark "division" in a button area 81c and a enter key of a remote controller 80 is operated to display thumbnails on a thumbnail display area 81b, thereby visually easily forming the chapters.
