<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain thinness and improvement of display quality of a liquid crystal display apparatus and to attain improvement of illumination efficiency of the liquid crystal display apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal apparatus wherein a liquid crystal layer 34 controlling light transmitted in at least a liquid crystal 34 according to applied voltage is sealed between lower and upper substrates 38 and 32 respectively having electrodes and opposed to each other, a polarization reflection layer 36 comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal layer is disposed between the lower substrate 38 and the liquid crystal layer 34, a light absorption member 40 is disposed on the surface side opposite to the liquid crystal layer 34 of the upper substrate 32, at least a retardation layer 30 of λ/4 and a polarization layer 28 are disposed on the surface side opposite to the liquid crystal layer 34 side of the upper substrate 32, a prism is formed on the surface opposite to the liquid crystal layer 34 of the upper substrate and a light source 42 composed of an LED is disposed on the side of the upper substrate. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
