A display device includes an underlying layer (270) formed over a substrate (200); an insulating layer (280) formed over the substrate to expose the underlying layer (270); and an organic EL layer (290) formed on the exposed portion of the underlying layer, wherein a thickness of the insulating layer (280) is formed to a predetermined thickness to prevent defects in the organic EL layer that can occur in an edge portion of the exposed portion.
