PURPOSE:To obtain critical current density as high as at least 1000A/cm<2> in an oxide superconductor having superconductivity by providing 90% or more of a theoretical density ratio of the superconductor. CONSTITUTION:The upper and lower surfaces of an oxide layer 1 covered with a metal layer 2 are formed into flat thin bands to such an extent as to have portions parallel to each other. A thickness of the layer 1 ranges from 0.35 to 0.75 of the whole thickness of a wire rod obtained by rolling. The whole thickness of the wire rod is made thin lower than 0.2mm. A thickness of the layer 2 is set to such a degree as to be deformable following contractile deformation of the layer 1 in sintering, where the layer 2 is elastic in use. In manufacturing, a metal pipe is filled with oxide having superconductivity. After drawing, the wire rod is subject to cold rolling in such a manner as to satisfy an expression: (ti-t)/tiX100>=90, wherein (ti) represents a thickness of the entirety of a cross sectional surface before rolling; and (t), the whole thickness after rolling, followed by a heat treatment. Consequently, critical current density can be increased as high as at least 1000A/cm<2>. |
