A mechanism is provided for identifying an inter-relationship between a first process and the second process of a computer system. A correlation is detected between the first process and the second process based on a timing of the first process and the second process accessing a system resource of the computer system. An inter-relationship is then identified between the first process and the second process based on the detected correlation between the first process and the second process. |

1. A method of identifying an inter-relationship between a first process and a second process of a computer system, the method comprising:
detecting a correlation between the first process and the second process based on a timing of the first process and the second process accessing a system resource of the computer system, wherein the detection of the correlation further comprises:
obtaining a first metric signal for the first process, the first metric signal representing a variation of activity of the first process over time;obtaining a second metric signal for the second process, the second metric signal representing a variation of activity of the second process over time;converting the first metric signal into a first quantized signal having a first set of allowable discrete values;converting the second metric signal into a second quantized signal having a second set of allowable discrete values; anddetecting a correlation between the first quantized signal and the second quantized signal based on a timing of variations in the first quantized signal and the second quantized signal; and identifying the inter-relationship between the first process and the second process based on the detected correlation between the first process and the second process. |
